It is important for the sake of the children in your home that, as a foster adoptive parent or kinship caregiver, you know how to advocate for yourself on important issues that impact their lives and yours.

Know the Issues

Keep up-to-date with decisions being made in the Legislature that affect you and your family.

  • Foster Care Bill of Rights
  • Protect Our Kids Act 2012, involving the formation of a national commission tasked with recommending a national strategy to prevent the 2,500+ child deaths that occur each year from maltreatment
  • NJ Assembly Bill A2881, which prohibits home-schooling of children under DCP&P (formerly DYFS) care, custody or supervision without DYFS approval
  • NJ Assembly Bill A251, which would require children in foster care and adopted children’s religion to be maintained by the foster or adoptive family
  • NJ Assembly Bill A4109, which would establish three categories for allegations of child abuse and neglect: substantiated, unsubstantiated, and unfounded
  • Protect Our Kids Act, which would create a National Commission on Child Abuse and Neglect Deaths and develop a strategy to prevent and reduce these deaths.
