How long have you been fostering?
How many children in foster care have you had in your home?
How many of these children (if any) have you adopted?
What made you become a foster parent?
We had 4 biological children, and we had had 2 miscarriages. We always wanted to have a large family, so we decided to become foster parents. We adopted our first placement, which took 7 years. By that time we thought it was best just to keep fostering so that we could help more children.
What advice would you give to your fellow foster parents?
Keep in touch with other foster parents. We have all been in different situations, and it helps to have others’ support and information.
What is the most important thing you would like the public to know about foster families?
It’s a hard thing to do, and there are some things that could be improved, but it is so satisfying to know that you are making a difference in a child’s life. At least when they are with us, we know that they are loved and safe.
How has embrella helped you as a foster parent?
By updating the trainings.
If you could leave a message in a bottle for children in foster care, what would it be?
You weren’t born to me, but I love you just as if you were. I will do my best to take care of you while you are with me.
